This notice explains what personal data joshgarcia.dev stores, why, who else handles it and how long it is kept.

Who we are

joshgarcia.dev is run by AlgoForgeX LLC, a Texas limited liability company, which is responsible for the personal data described here. Our registered postal address is 13423 Blanco Road, San Antonio, TX 78216, USA.

What this site stores

When you use the contact form we keep your name, email address, subject, message, internet address and browser type, and, when you ask about consulting, your company, website, what you need, budget range and timeline if you give them; when you send game feedback we keep your message, internet address and browser type, and your email address only if you give one.

The contact form

When you send a message through the contact form we keep:

  • your name and email address, so we can reply;
  • the subject and the message you write;
  • if you ask about consulting, your company and website and the answers you choose about what you need, your budget range and your timeline, so we can reply with a useful first answer;
  • your internet address, your browser type and the time you sent it, so we can spot and block spam.

We are also sent an email about each message, holding your name, email address, subject, message and internet address, and, for a consulting inquiry, your company, website and the answers you chose.

Game feedback

When you send feedback about a game we keep:

  • the game, the kind of report and the message you write;
  • your email address, only if you give one, so we can reply;
  • your internet address, your browser type and the time you sent it, so we can spot and block spam;
  • when the game passes them, its version, the place in the game you were and the site you came from.

Page views

When a page loads, your browser tells us which page it was and, on the page you arrive on, the name of the site that linked you here. We store that with the time and nothing else: no internet address, no cookie, no browser type and nothing that identifies you or your device.

Performance telemetry

When it is switched on, Microsoft Application Insights records how the site performs and the errors it meets. It does not store your internet address.

In your browser

The site remembers whether you chose the light or the dark theme in your browser's own storage; that choice never leaves your browser. Pages on this site set a cookie that protects their forms against forgery; it holds nothing about you and ends when you close your browser.

Internet addresses and the block list

Your internet address is used, in memory only, to limit how often a form can be sent. If an address is used to send spam we may add it to a block list, which keeps that address and how many messages from it were turned away.

Game licenses

This section covers buying a game license on this site, using it in a game, and the emails that come with it.

Your email address and your purchase

We keep your email address to register your license, to send it to you again when you ask, and to send you the emails described here.

With each purchase we also keep:

  • the game, the price, the tax and what was refunded;
  • the country you choose on the buy page, and the billing country Stripe reports;
  • the references Stripe gives the payment, so a refund or a dispute can be matched to it;
  • which version of the terms you accepted and when, and whether you ticked the box asking for news, with the wording you ticked.

The emails we send

The license service sends you:

  • the license email, with your code or with how to ask for it again, when you buy or when we grant you a license;
  • a new license code, when you follow a link to ask for your license again;
  • a one-time link, when you ask for your license again, for a copy of your data or for your data to be deleted;
  • an email about a game you bought, such as an update or a change that affects you;
  • news about new games, only if you asked for it.

We may email you about a game you bought, such as an update or a change that affects you. We email you about new games and other news only if you tick the box when you buy, or when you ask for your license again, and you can change your mind at any time. Every one of those emails has a link that unsubscribes you at once.

Your license emails are about your purchase only. They carry no news and no offers, and they still come after you unsubscribe. Every email we send carries our postal address.

Your license code and the game

Your license code is kept encrypted only until it has been emailed to you and shown once, and for no more than 24 hours, then only as a one-way hash we cannot read back, so asking again gets you a new code.

The game itself never receives your email address. When you unlock a game, it is given a signed token naming this site, the game, your license, a random number for that browser and when the token was issued, and nothing else. The game checks your license on its own device and contacts this site only when you press Unlock, enter a code or check again.

For each browser a license unlocks we record that random number and when it was first unlocked and last checked, so the limit on new browsers can be applied. We record no internet address and no browser type with it.

Payment

Payment is taken by Stripe; we never see your card number. Stripe handles your payment details for us, and for its own purposes, such as preventing fraud and meeting its legal duties, under its own privacy policy, and keeps its own record of your payment. Stripe tells us your email address, your billing country, the tax and whether the payment succeeded, was refunded or was disputed.

We keep a small cookie in your browser for one day after you start a purchase, so that only your browser is shown your code. It holds a random value and nothing about you, cannot be read by the page's scripts, and is sent only to this site.

Internet addresses for licenses

When you buy a game, unlock it or ask for your license again, your internet address is used to limit how often a form or the license check can be used, and it is never stored. The counts are kept in memory only and start again when the site restarts.

Asking again, and your data

If you lose your code, ask for your license again on the license page. The page for asking for your license again answers the same way whether or not a license is registered to the address you type. If a license is registered there, we email that address a link, and following it gives you a new code; your old code stops working in new browsers, and browsers already unlocked stay unlocked.

On the data page you can ask for a copy of what we hold for your address, or for it to be deleted. We email the address a link first, so only its owner can do either. Each link works once, for 24 hours. One internet address can ask for at most 3 links a day for any one email address, and at most 5 a minute in all; asks beyond that send nothing.

Deleting removes your email address from your purchases and licenses, together with whether you asked for news. We keep the record of a purchase for four years for tax law, without your email address once you ask us to delete it. A license already unlocked in a browser keeps working there, but it can no longer be sent to you again. Stripe's own record of your payment is not affected.

Who else handles it

The site, its database and its email run on Microsoft Azure, so Microsoft handles this data for us. A consulting inquiry is also copied into CRM Forge, the customer system we run for our own work, so we can reply and prepare a proposal; CRM Forge also runs on Microsoft Azure, and when we use one of its AI features on an inquiry, the AI provider named in CRM Forge's privacy notice handles that text for us. Stripe takes payments for game licenses, as described above. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising.

How long we keep it

  • Contact messages, consulting inquiries and game feedback are kept until we delete them, and we delete yours if you ask, and archive the copy of a consulting inquiry in CRM Forge so it is no longer used.
  • Page views are kept, because nothing in them identifies you.
  • Block list entries are kept until we remove them.
  • Purchase records are kept for four years for tax law; your email address is removed from them when you ask us to delete your data.
  • A license, and the email address it is registered to, are kept for as long as the license exists, because it does not expire, until you ask us to delete your data.
  • Whether you asked for news, and when you unsubscribed, are kept with your email address and deleted with it.

Your choices

You can ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, through the data page for anything about a game license, or through the contact page for anything else. You can unsubscribe from news and game updates with the link in any of those emails, and opt back in by ticking the box again.

Buyers in the European Union and the United Kingdom

We do not sell game licenses to buyers in the European Union or the United Kingdom yet, so we have not appointed a representative there. This section will change, with the effective date at the top of this page, before we start selling there.

Do Not Track

If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, we do not record your page views at all. The site runs no advertising or cross-site tracking scripts, so there is nothing else for the signal to turn off.

Changes to this notice

The effective date at the top of this page changes whenever this notice does.
